Hi Jim, I lived two winters on the river but just started this blog in April. But I don't live on the river anymore I now live on my family farm in Illinois...I miss the river a LOT! Thanks for checking out my blog, hope you will still visit now that it is about my farm.
Margie, no I don't know you. I'm very fond of Northern Wisconsin - have been going up there, around Boulder Junction, since I was a kid. I've been on the Manitowish River many times and like to search the web once in awhile for pics etc, of the river and lakes - and came across your blog. I've always wanted to settle there but could never quite figure out how to make a living Up North.
Jim, I could email you about a 1000 pics! Work is hard to come by, I did just about everything under the sun, from owning my own house painting/caretaking company to bartending, waitressing, dog sitting, kid sitting (bleech), worked at a a gas station, etc.
Ch-ch-ch-CHANGES!
I used to live on a beautiful river in Northern Wisconsin. I now live in the home my Mother grew up in, with my Mother. I live in the basement of the house, because she is left handed and I am right handed and well frankly I need my own freaking space.
So I live on a farm, a farm that has been in my family (recorded anyway) since 1872. My Mother has grown tired of taking care of the place alone so I offered to move home, something I knew I would do someday...maybe just not this soon.
I water cows, I dream of chickens, goats, and a bigger better tended garden...I also dream of Sushi, foreign films, Johnny Depp and a small house of my own down by the creek at the edge of our property.
I work part-time as a baker at the grocery storein town, so exciting!
So to sum it all up, I am 45 years old, live in my Mother's basement, have a GIANT dog named Phoebe and love my Mother and my Farm (most of the time)!
Love the river... Have never seen it in the winter, looks beautiful. What do you do up there to make a living?
